Laying instructions

Draw a base line (or wire) at a place in the middle of the surface (floor or wall) on which you are going to work (see illustration). Open several cartons. Mix mats from different cartons for an optimum result.

Apply a strip of tile cement across the breadth of the ‘tile’. Spread the cement evenly using a cement comb of maximum 6 mm.

Press the mats against one another at the ends using both hands. Manoeuvre the tiles until they fit together well. Using a grout float, knock the tile flat into the cement to fit tightly into the previous tile or against the base line. Repeat this process across the entire line. Make sure the mats fit tightly together to avoid a gap between the rows.

Which grouting material is suitable?

In the first instance, the grouting material should be suitable for natural stone. Any grouting material for joints of 0 to 10 mm and with a certain flexibility can be used. Check the specifications for dry and wet rooms and/or other aspects that may be relevant to the situation where the Mosaic Miro products are being worked.Making to size

The mats can be sawn to make the surface fit precisely to size. To do so, use a ruler (to define the size and draw the line) and a grinding disc or wet saw. If necessary, smoothen the ground edges using steel wool.

Important tip

The edge joint may remain more or less visible between two rows of ‘tiles’. In that case use a sharp knife to cut a few strategically chosen stones clear of the mat and turn them in one direction. This breaks up any still visible edge joint. By turning a few stones once it will vanish completely, which will create an optimum ‘random’ pattern.

Impregnating matt or gloss

We strongly recommend that you impregnate the wall or floor to combat dirt as much as possible and to facilitate cleaning. You can choose for a matt or glossy appearance. Whatever material you choose must be suitable for natural stone, such as HMK S34 or natural wax for example. Also check specific requirements for applications in the situation concerned.
For an optimum and complete seal, two-components impregnation are available from specialist dealers.

Cleaning

Once the cement is applied, then gently wipe the surface with a slightly wet sponge until the remaining excess grout is removed. Once the cement is fully dry and the joints have hardened, clean the wall or floor thoroughly. Use an acid-free cleaning to do so. For a more glossy appearance, first polish the surface. For cleaning, you should preferably use a neutral, non-acidic cleaning that is suitable for natural stone.
